Project BIRDS

The European Relations Unit of the Province of Treviso (Italy) is setting up a youth exchange for 32 teenagers aged from 14 to 16, in partnership with its twinned region Calvados County Council (France), the Bezirk of Lower Franconia (Germany), in turn twinned with Calvados, and the Cultural Activities Center of Lubniany (Poland). The 4 partners cooperate in youth projects since 4 years.
All agreed that it is very important give to youth new meeting chances in whose the
intercultural dialogue has to be the goal and main topic. Culture will be the theme and focus of this Youth Exchange during 6 days, and shall be tackled from within these main viewpoints: issues of identity, stereotypes, values, European identity, multiculturalism, intercultural learning, the value of voluntary work and of civil society, awareness of realities of social exclusion and cultural diversity, discrimination, marginalization, poverty and disadvantaged people.
Participants will themselves develop a coherent programme of activities based on non-formal working methods such as workshops and various learning-by-doing activities. Understanding different cultures is crucial to the development of a tolerant and unprejudiced society. Through the multicultural atmosphere of a Youth Exchange young participants shall boost their awareness of European Identity and of cultures pertaining to EU. This will not only be achieved through experiencing unity in cultural diversity, but also by tackling their experiences within culture and traditions.
